Description
The K6 telephone kiosk in Dent was designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. This standardised kiosk is made of cast iron and is painted red overall. It features long horizontal glazing in the doors and sides, with crowns on the top panels that are applied rather than perforated. There are rectangular white display signs reading "TELEPHONE" beneath the shallow curved roof. The interior has been modernised with updated equipment.
The kiosk is located on the eastern side of a minor road, adjacent to the west elevation of the reading room, on the south-eastern approach to the village centre. It is surrounded by three Grade II-listed buildings: The Old Vicarage and The Old Parsonage, approximately 53 meters to the west by south-west; Siege Ghyll, about 14 meters to the south-west; and the Old Post Office and adjoining barn, roughly 21 meters to the north-west. The telephone kiosk has a strong visual connection with these nearby listed buildings.
