Description

No. 75 High Street is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century with 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof over thatch, with brick ridge and end stacks. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range, following a three-unit plan. There are 20th-century doors to the left and right of the center, both with wood lintels. The left door has a straight head on brackets, with a lintel extending over a two-light casement window to the left. On either side of the right door are three-light casements, and there are two-light casements on the first floor.

At the rear, there is a 19th-century two-story brick extension that links the main house with a small two-story, two-unit cottage, which is now part of the general accommodation. Inside, the house features stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer. The roof is a collar-truss design. The left end bay was probably used as a shop originally, with a loft above and a very large open fireplace in the ground floor room, which has a cambered bressumer and a bread oven. Additionally, a late 14th-century kiln has been excavated in the front garden.
