Description

Mill House, Mill Cottage, and Mill Wheel are a water mill and mill house that have been converted into three dwellings. They date from around 1850 to 1860 and have undergone some 20th-century alterations. The buildings are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a slate roof and feature brick ridge and end stacks. The mill is three stories tall with five windows, while the mill house is two stories with three windows and has a two-unit plan. Both the mill and the mill house share the same roof.

The former mill, known as Hill House, has 20th-century windows and a door in the original openings, which have round-arched brick heads. There is a slate-hung gabled hoist over the center above the eaves, and a red-brick lean-to extension on the right. The former mill house, now Mill Cottage, is situated on higher ground to the left and features a central 20th-century door and 12-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors, except for a small central window on the first floor, all with segmental-arched brick heads. The entire block has brick corbelled eaves.

At the rear of the former mill, there is a gabled wing, likely the former engine house, which has similar window styles and a tall rebuilt red-brick chimney nearby. No machinery remains. The mill was originally water-powered and also had steam power, built to serve the Grafton estate.
