Description
High Stennerskeugh Farmhouse and the adjoining byre were built in the mid 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The structure is made of coursed squared rubble with quoins and features a graduated slate roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay front. The central entrance is a panelled door located beneath a gabled slate canopy, with sash windows on either side and three more above, all featuring wide glazing bars. To the right of the farmhouse is a single-bay byre that shares the same roof. There is a ramp leading up to the loft entrance on the south side, and the byre entrance is located at the rear. The house has stone copings and kneelers, along with stone end chimneys. Inside the house, there is a very fine 18th-century floor-standing two-stage oak corner cupboard in the front room to the north. This cupboard has a small door at the base and a main door with a shaped top, both adorned with small fielded panels, and it features an ornate cornice with a scrolled pediment. The outbuildings adjoining the north return are not of interest.
