Description

The barn at Otterkeld, located to the south of Bowberhead farmhouse in Ravenstonedale, is a Grade II listed ramp barn, likely dating from the 17th century with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and features a graduated slate roof with stone-flagged eaves. The barn has two low storeys and two bays.

On the north elevation, there is a blocked byre door beneath a flagstone, with a stone-walled ramp leading up to plank wagon doors on the left side. To the right, there is a plank door that provides access to the first floor. The east return features a byre door with a loft door above, both made of planks, and a battered buttress is present on the left jamb. The structure is topped with stone copings and kneelers, and it includes a 19th-century king-post roof truss.
