Description
The structure consists of a forecourt wall, gate piers, and railings located to the south-west of Lytheside East Farmhouse. It is likely from the early to mid-19th century. The walls are built of drystone, using coursed squared rubble with flat copings. The gate piers are made from stone blocks and stand approximately 8 feet high, square in shape, featuring a chamfered plinth and cap topped with a ball finial. The forecourt wall is about 4 feet high, while the garden wall is around 2 feet high and topped with hooped railings that are about 1 foot high. These railings enclose spearhead rod standards, with ball finials on the cast-iron posts that separate the railing sections. The walls next to the east gate pier are not of interest.
