Description
Ramp barn, built in 1664, is located in the farmyard to the south of Tarn House. The initials G.F. and I.F. (George Fothergill and his wife Julian) are inscribed on the lintel above the byre door. The scrolled labels on either side of the lintel suggest that it has been raised rather than reused. The barn is constructed from coursed squared rubble with quoins and features a graduated stone-flag roof. It has two storeys and five bays. The central entrance is a plank byre door, with a 20th-century casement and a segment-headed cart door to the right, and two casements (one in a partially blocked doorway) to the left. There is a small chamfered window opening on the first floor to the right and a plank door to the left. A segment-headed wagon entrance on the first floor is accessed via a ramp on the west return. The roof is supported by stone kneelers. A lean-to against the east return is not of interest.
