Description
Gilmour House, formerly a farmhouse, byre, and small barn, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. It is constructed of squared rubble with slate roofs; the byre features flagged eaves, while the barn has a stone-flagged roof. The house has stone chimney stacks and a linear plan, with the house and attached byre on the left, and a set-back barn attached to the left of the byre.
The two-storey, three-bay house has flush quoins on the right side. It features a central replaced, partly-glazed door set in a flush tooled surround, with a blank bay above the doorway. Flanking the door are 12-pane sash windows with flush sills and slightly-segmental heads that have flush voussoirs. The steeply-pitched roof has a stone ridge, coped grilles, and shaped kneelers, with end stacks that have top bands and water tables.
The four-bay byre, with flush quoins on the left, has scattered openings, including two fixed lights and a replaced 9-pane sash window on the right. It also has a steeply-pitched roof with a stone ridge, flagged eaves, and a raised verge to the left featuring reversed crowsteps.
To the left is a small barn with flush quoins. The rear of the house includes a two-storey outshut on the left and a lower outshut on the right. The rear of the byre has a central Dutch door flanked by altered openings.
Inside, the gable end truss of the byre features curved principals that are halved at the apex, with a collar extending beyond the principals to support the purlins.
The byre and barn are included for their group value.
