Description
Brook Lea House, also shown on the Ordnance Survey map as Brook House, is a house dating from the 18th century, with significant alterations and additions made in 1953. It features rendered masonry, a stone-flagged roof, and stone chimney stacks.
The house is two stories tall and has four bays, with a set-back left bay that is a later addition. The right bay has a replaced glazed door with a renewed projecting surround, and the door lintel is inscribed with "1733 IAM 1953." The windows have been replaced and feature projecting sills, with 12-pane sashes on the ground floor and 9-pane sashes above. The roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, along with rebuilt end and ridge stacks that have top bands.
There is a one-storey addition to the right and 20th-century additions to the rear, which are not of special interest. The building has considerable value within the village landscape. It should not be confused with Brook House located on the west side of East Green.
