Description
No. 1 East Street is a house and shop, now used as offices, dating from the late 18th century, with early and late 19th-century features. The building has brick walls laid in Flemish bond, with cambered openings on the ground floor and brick dentil eaves. It has a hipped tile roof and the south elevation is two storeys high with three windows featuring sashes in exposed frames. The corner of the building has a central entrance flanked by shop windows, one of which faces High Street. This area includes a dentilled cornice and a rounded frieze at the corner. The residential part features a 20th-century classical doorcase with double half-glazed doors. The rear premises facing High Street are described separately, and the design of the shopfront is repeated on the opposite corner at the junction of High Street and West Street.
