Description
This is an 18th-century house and shop, altered in the mid-19th century. It is located on West Street in Hambledon. The building's walls are of painted brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern, with a plinth and a first-floor band to part of the elevation. It has brick dentil eaves and a hipped and half-hipped tile roof. The property comprises a taller corner block and a lower rear wing extending along the street frontage. The south elevation has two storeys and five windows (the centre being filled in). Casements are found on the wing, while the main part features sash windows in exposed frames. The corner entrance is centrally located, featuring curved double doors, half-glazed, with shop windows on either side. These windows are flanked by panelled pilasters that support a modillion cornice above a fascia, rounded at the corner. There are two doorways onto West Street, one of which has a cornice above pilasters and a six-panelled door with two upper glazed panels. The shop front design is replicated at the opposite corner, where High Street meets East Street.
