Description

Avington Farm Cottages is a farmhouse that has been converted into cottages but is currently under one ownership. It dates from the early and late 18th century and has been altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and has a slate roof. The early 18th-century farmhouse is a double pile structure with an attached late 18th-century dairy on the left and a 19th-century lean-to on the right end.

The house is two stories high and has three bays. It features a 20th-century top-glazed door in an older frame at the center, with an 18th-century flat hood supported by moulded brackets. There is a planked door in a solid frame at the left end and a 19th-century top-glazed door at the right end in the lean-to. Additionally, there are two 19th-century single-storey hip-roofed bay windows. On the first floor, there are three fifteen-pane sash windows. The eaves are dentilled, and there are gable stacks at the right side of the front pile and at the left between the ridges.

The dairy is a lower two-story building with a solid frame door on the right, a 20th-century three-light casement window in an original segmental-headed opening on the left, and a 20th-century five-light casement window above in an original opening with a dentilled cornice. There is also an added range at the rear of the dairy. This 18th-century farmhouse is part of a good farm group.
