Description

The front gatepiers and roadside wall at The Beeches were built in the early 19th century and were likely lowered in the 20th century. They are constructed from deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone, backed by limestone rubble, and feature ashlar copings. The design includes low, convex quadrant walls that flank square-sectioned ashlar gate piers topped with pyramidal caps. The wall rises to the north and runs along the pavement of Matlock Street before ending at a garden gateway.
