Description
5 King Street is a house, now a shop, dating from the mid- to late 18th century, with later additions to the rear. The front facade is of coursed dressed sandstone; the rear is of limestone rubble. The roof is covered in Welsh slate.
The house is three storeys high with a three-window front. It features large quoins. A part-glazed door is set within a broad ashlar surround, flanked by three-pane shop windows with low sills. These windows have a continuous fascia with brackets and dentils. The first floor has eight-pane sash windows in painted surrounds. The second floor has matching windows, also with eight panes, and projecting sills. An eaves band and chamfered cornice cap the facade. Ashlar end stacks are present, incorporating bands.
The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
The building is designated a Grade II listed building for its group value, recognising its contribution to the character of the area.
