Description
The walls, railings, gates, and piers at the front of The Beeches, which enclose the forecourt, date from the late 18th century and have some 20th-century repairs. The walls are made of sandstone rubble with limestone coping, while the front wall and piers are constructed from limestone ashlar. The railings and gates are made of cast and wrought iron. The rubble walls are approximately 3 meters high and extend about 17 meters to the south from each side of The Beeches, ramping down at the front to a square pier that features a plinth, rustication, and a shaped cornice on top. There is a doorway with a segmental head in the wall to the left. The front range has a low ashlar wall, which is largely reconstructed, extending about 20 meters and topped with spear-headed wrought-iron railings. There are similar gates on the left and right, set back from the front range of railings.
