Description

This is a mile post located half a mile south of the New Inn, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top that rises to a straight back with a curved top. The mile post is inscribed with the following distances: "LONDON/144 MILES/DERBY/18 MILES/NEWTON GRANGE/TOWNSHIP/ASHBOURNE/5 MILES/BUXTON/15 MILES." It was produced by James Harwood of the Phoenix Foundry in Derby.
