Description

This is a mile post located north of the old railway bridge on Buxton Road in the parish of Fenny Bentley. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of cast iron. The mile post has a triangular shape with a sloping top that rises to a straight back with a curved top. It features inscriptions indicating distances: "LONDON/142 MILES/DERBY/16 MILES/BENTLEY/PARISH/ASHBOURNE/3 MILES/BUXTON/17 MILES/J HAYWOOD JUN/DERBY".
