Description

This is a mile post dating from the early 19th century, made of cast iron. It has a triangular shape with a sloping upper part that rises to a back plate featuring a curved top. The mile post is inscribed with the following information: "LONDON 134 MILES, BUXTON 25 MILES, EDNASTON TOWNSHIP, ASHBOURNE 5 MILES, DERBY 8 MILES, J HAYWOOD JUNR, PHOENIX FOUNDRY, DERBY."
