Description
The Old School House is a building that originally served as a house and school, now functioning as a house and tea rooms. It dates from the late 18th century and was extended in 1837. The structure is made of coursed limestone with gritstone dressings and features a plain tile roof with stone coped gables and kneelers. It has three stone ridge stacks and a stone gable end stack. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with the north end being a single-storey addition from 1837, designed in a Tudor style. This section includes a canted bay window with moulded mullions and a parapet. There is a lower porch projection at the northeast corner, which has rusticated pilasters and a parapet. The central section of the building is raised and displays a coat of arms. The entrance features an oak studded door set in a chamfered stone surround, topped with a label and a datestone. A lead-covered bellcote is situated on the roof, and the chimneys on this part of the building are polygonal.
