Description
Alsop Hall is a house dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and features plain tile roofs and stone gable end stacks. The building has three storeys and two-storey wings.
The south elevation consists of six bays with asymmetrical flush quoins. The early 20th-century west wing includes a 3-light stone mullion window on both the ground and first floors, featuring leaded lights. The central three-bay block projects in two steps and has twin gables. To the left of the central block is a doorway with a chamfered surround and a dripmould, leading to C20 double plank doors.
Around the corner to the left, there is a 3-light mullioned and transomed window with cavetto moulding and a dripmould. Above the doorway, a similar 5-light mullioned and transomed window has a dripmould that continues around the corner over another 3-light window. Above this, there is another similar window. To the right, a single light window is present on the first and second floors, also with cavetto moulding and dripmoulds. Further to the right, there is a 4-light mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor, a similar 4-light mullioned window above, and another single light in the gable.
The east wing features a 20th-century 4-light mullioned and transomed window with a dripmould on the ground floor and a 17th-century 3-light mullioned window above, which does not have a dripmould. There is also a 20th-century single-storey wing to the right with a 3-light mullioned and transomed window. Additionally, there is an early 20th-century rear extension with three gables.
