Description
Lode Mill is a mid-19th century mill and granary located on Lode Lane in Alstonefield. The building is constructed from coursed and squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. It has a clay tile roof with coped verges and an ashlar ridge stack. The mill is two storeys high and has four windows, which are fitted with glazing bar casements that have segmental heads. The ground floor windows have straight dripstones, and there are board doors located to the left, right, and center of the ground floor, with an additional door on the first floor to the right. To the right of the mill is a low two-storey granary with square-headed windows and a door, along with Tallet steps leading to the first floor door in the right-hand gable end. At the rear of the mill, there is an external undershot water wheel. The interior has not been inspected.
