Description
Ivy Cottage is a pair of houses that have been combined into one. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations and an addition. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a plain tile roof. It features a brick integral end stack and ridge stacks. Originally, the structure was T-shaped, consisting of a two-cell main range aligned east-west facing south, with a rear wing aligned north-south. The main range has been extended to the west to create a second two-cell house.
The cottage is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic and has four windows, all of which are casements. The two left-hand bays are part of the original house. There are two doors: one on the left with a bracketed hood and another to the right of centre with a massive lintel. On the left-hand gable, there is a two-light chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor with a straight hood mould, alongside a blocked circular window. The north elevation features a single storey with a two-light chamfered mullioned window with a straight hood mould at the gable end of the rear wing to the right, a blocked lozenge-shaped light above it, and a two-light mullioned window to the right of centre.
