Description
The Church of St. Mary is a chapel-of-ease built in 1839. It is constructed from coursed and squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a plain tile roof with coped verges. The church has a four-bay nave with a south porch, a single-bay chancel, and a north-west vestry. The pointed windows include an east window with Y-tracery. The gabled south porch has a pointed door and a niche above that contains a statuette of the Virgin. The building also features coved eaves and a weatherboarded bellcote with a hipped roof.
Inside, there is a pointed chancel arch that springs from moulded imposts, and a west gallery supported by cylindrical cast iron columns with an arcaded rail. The ceilings are plastered, and the beams are cased. Notable fittings include an octagonal stone font with quatrefoil side panels that contain fleurons, a semi-octagonal wooden pulpit, and a heavily decorated 17th-century communion rail, with a piece of the same rail displayed on the south wall.
