Description

This is a milepost located on Buxton Road in the parish of Castleton, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with the upper part cut away in a concave curve. The milepost is inscribed with the distances to various locations: "CHAPEL EN LE/FRITH/4 MILES. SHEFFIELD/18 MILES/ HATHERSAGE/8 MILES/CASTLETON/2 MILE" (with a spelling error present).
