Description

The Mill and attached chimney is a cotton mill that has been converted into seven dwellings. It dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed and ashlar gritstone with gritstone dressings, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The main block is four storeys high, with a projecting two and a half storey south wing and a chimney that is attached by a piece of wall at the northeast corner.

The south elevation features thirteen bays, including a square projecting staircase tower with a lean-to slate roof on the east side, and another ashlar-faced staircase tower of U-shaped plan, which was built separately from the main mill for fire safety, topped with a coped parapet. The ground floor has a single door, three double cart entrances, and three glazing bar sash windows. Above, there are eight sash windows on the second floor, ten on the third, and twelve on the top floor, all featuring keystone lintels and projecting sills. The east elevation includes glazing bar sashes and a lunette window in the gable.

The chimney, attached to the east side, was likely added when the mill transitioned from water to steam power in the late 19th century. It is square in plan and tapers inwards for most of its height, featuring eleven string course bands. The mill was restored and converted in 1969 for the Landmark Trust by George Robb.
