Description
This is a barn located opposite the Methodist Chapel in Barber Booth, Edale. It dates from the late 16th century and has been altered since then. The barn is built from coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and features a stone slate roof. It is a single-storey structure with three bays. The western two bays are from the late 16th century and have massive quoins. There is a doorway on the right that has a chamfered surround, a cambered head, and a massive lintel with quoins, although this doorway is now blocked. To the left, there is another doorway with a chamfered surround, a massive lintel, and quoins, which contains a 19th-century plank door with lancet-shaped ventilation slots. There is also a square opening to the left, framed by massive quoins.
Inside, the barn features one cruck truss that is partly embedded in the stone wall and may not be complete. An early 19th-century extension has been added to the east, which includes a ball finial on the gable end.
