Description

Fylingdales Stores and Post Office is a house with a shop, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from finely-coursed, vertically-tooled sandstone that has a near-ashlar quality, except on the ground floor where the stones are larger and plain, indicating an earlier base. The right return features herringbone-tooled sandstone. The building has a Welsh slate roof with stone copings and kneelers. It stands three storeys tall, with a cellar to the right, and has two windows. There are four steps leading up to a central half-glazed double door set in a double shopfront, which features five-light windows with half-bars. The door and windows are framed by pilasters and a bracketed cornice. The cellar opening is located in the right stallriser. The first and second floors have cill bands and 16-pane sash windows. The kneelers are crisply cut.

At the rear, there are two buildings from the mid and late 18th century that have been altered. These have incised render, a pantiled roof with stone dressings, and brick stacks. The older left part is two storeys with an attic and three narrow bays, while the right part is also two storeys with three bays, but irregular in design. The windows in this section are mostly sashes of varying sizes and periods. Inside, the shop counters are faced with leather and gesso painted panels depicting working and dancing figures along with arabesque patterns, and there are old showcases.
