Description

FYLINGDALES KING STREET NZ 9504 Robin Hood's Bay (east side) 19/99 Fylingdales Stores and 6.10.69. Post Office (formerly listed as Post Office) GV II House with shop, early-mid C19. Finely-coursed, vertically-tooled sandstone of near-ashlar quality except on ground floor where stones are larger and plain, suggesting an earlier base; herringbone-tooled sandstone on right return. Welsh slate roof, stone copings and kneelers. 3 storeys, and cellar at right, 2 windows. 4 steps to central half-glazed double door in double shopfront whose 5-light windows have half-bars; door and windows framed in pilasters and bracketed cornice. Cellar opening in right stallriser. First- and second-floor cill bands; 16-pane sashes on both floors. Crisply-cut kneelers. Rear wing 2 buildings, mid and late C18 with alterations. Incised render; pantiled roof with stone dressings and brick stacks. Older left part 2 storeys and attic, 3 narrow bays. Right part 2 storeys, 3 bays, irregular. Windows mostly sashes, differing in size and period. Interior: shop counters faced with leather and gesso painted panels of working and dancing figures and arabesque patterns; old showcases.
