Description

Gardeners Cottage is a 17th-century, two-storey and attic end dwelling, originally two cottages, situated in a short row along The Street, Gretton, near Winchcombe. The building is constructed of ashlar limestone with a stone slate roof, featuring saddle back coped gables and gable stacks with plain cappings. A stack is incorporated into the ridge, close to the gable.

The front facade has a two-bay and one-window arrangement. There are two small, gabled dormers containing 2-light casements. The ground floor windows include a 2-light casement with bars, a 2-light small hollow chamfered mullion casement, a 3-light casement of the same design, a 2-light casement with bars and a transom over a plank door (with 19th-century strap hinges), and a 3-light casement with horizontal bars.

The rear elevation has a later lean-to addition. Above this, and below the eaves, are remnants of three 2-light mullioned casements with stopped drips. Within the gable on the left side is a blocked window consisting of 2 over 3 over 3-lights, along with a blocked hollow chamfered stone-mullioned casement, the top window having a stopped drip mould. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
