Description
Bank Side is a small detached house dating from the 16th century. It features box timber framing set on a rubble plinth, with rendered panels and a squared limestone wall on the north gable. The thatched roof has a gable stack at the south end. The house is 1½ storeys high and has three windows on the ground floor, consisting of three 3-light casements and two 2-light casements, with the right-hand windows at different cill heights. The central entrance has a 6-panel part-glazed door beneath a small flat hood, and above it is a 2-light casement with an eyebrow. The west front includes 2-light casements and a small 2-light casement to the left of the door. Inside, there are rough chamfered beams, a well-preserved half-timbered wall to the right of the entrance, a large rebuilt fireplace on the left, and a tight winder stair opposite the door. The east side is reputed to have lath and plaster infill panels. The house was formerly known as Shepherd's Cottage.
