Description

Oak Cottage is a barn, now a house, dating to the 17th century, although the majority of the property was rebuilt in the late 20th century. The building is constructed primarily of rubble limestone, with one timber-framed wall and a concrete tile roof. The north-east wall is a simple, unbraced timber-frame structure with plaster panels set on a stone plinth. It features 3 intermediate horizontal rails and an eaves plate with alternating main and subsidiary vertical timbers spanning 8 bays. An extension has been built to the left in a similar style. This wall contains three top-hung lights at eaves level, and two three-light casements below. The property is listed primarily for the retention of this timber-framed wall, which represents a remnant of an earlier complete building; it is a striking feature, set well back and elevated from the street.
