Description
Wood Cottage is a detached estate cottage built in the mid-19th century and extended in the late 19th to early 20th century. It features red brick and square-panelled timber-framing, topped with a red tile roof that has bands of fish scale tiling and a brick chimney. The building has an L-shaped main body with a projecting porch and a contemporary outbuilding on the left gable end. At the rear of the main body, there are timber-framed lean-tos. The cottage is single storey with an attic, which is illuminated by two 2-light full dormers. The symmetrical facade includes two 3-light casement windows on the ground floor, each with limestone hoodmoulds, and all windows have diamond leaded panes. The central porch features a basket-headed entrance with a plank door. The single-storey outbuilding to the left has a partly weather-boarded front and contains a 2-light casement window with glazing bars. The eaves are adorned with sawtooth brickwork, and there is a square central stack. The interior has not been inspected. This property is part of the Forthampton Estate.
