Description
This barn, located at right angles to the road immediately east of Corner House Farm, dates from the early to late 18th century. It features square-panelled timber-framing with unpainted brick infill and a thatched roof adorned with decorative ridge thatching. There is a brick extension with a red tile roof added to the north gable end in the late 18th century. The barn has a rectangular plan and includes central double-width openings with plank doors, as well as cross-shaped ventilation holes at the center of each panel. It stands two storeys high and has a late 18th-century wash-house extension that contains a hayloft, a pitching window, and a two-light segmental-headed casement window located lower right, with dentil decoration at the eaves. Inside, the barn consists of three bays with original queen strut trusses featuring trenched purlins, a flagged threshing floor, and a washing copper still in place in the former wash-house. This structure is part of the Forthampton Estate.
