Description

Sanctuary Cottage is a building that may have originally served as a hall, with a former solar block attached at the southeast corner, now known as The Sanctuary. It has been converted from two cottages into a single residence. The structure dates from the late 15th to early 16th century, with additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features close-studded timber framing with struts, painted brick infill, and a red tile roof, along with a brick stack. The main part of the building is rectangular in plan and consists of two storeys with three bays, displaying irregular fenestration that includes one and two-light casements with glazing bars. There is an 18th-century timber-framed extension on the right gable end and a 19th-century brick extension at the rear left. The main body has a large, partly detached, projecting left gable-end stack with broad offsets. The front features two 19th-century plank doors with single pitched planks above. The interior is not accessible.
