7/71 Farmbuildings parallel to road immediately north of Mill Hill Farm

GV II

Stables, store, barn and horse engine house. Mid C19. Red brick with red tile roof. L-shaped plan with octagonal horse-engine house in angle. Roadside front; large partially blocked segmental-headed double width opening with double doors far left, 4 segmental-headed windows arranged in square right, double width opening with segmental head and double sliding doors right then seven blind round-headed arches, plank door and plank pitching door right. Octagonal horse engine house with basket-headed archways to ground floor and hayloft with pitching windows over. Diamond- shaped brickwork ventilation holes in gable-end and side wall of attached barn. King post roof construction to main range and barn. Horse engine house formerly used to house horse driven threshing machine. Unaltered range incorporating rarely found horse engine house which is also unusual for having a hayloft and for lying on the farmyard side of the farm buildings. (Forthampton Estate).
