Description
A range of farm buildings dating from the mid-19th century, forming three sides of a rectangular yard, with Brickwall Farmhouse forming the southern boundary. The buildings are constructed of red brick with yellow brick dressings, and polychrome brick surrounds to some openings, all with slate roofs. The layout is an “O” shape, with an additional “L” shaped block projecting from the southwestern angle. The north wing is two-storied, containing a large threshing barn to the west and a first-floor granary to the east, above a loading and storage area that is open to the north. The east wing is single-storied, except for a central entrance archway with a low first-floor room and a pyramidal roof. The southern section of this wing includes a cart shed, while the northern portion contains stabling with original loose boxes. The west wing is also single-storied and primarily used as stables. Most of the openings face the farmyard, with plank doors featuring hit-and-miss ventilators and strap hinges. The buildings have cast iron windows with small panes. All openings have cambered heads, and the entrance arch includes bull’s eye windows and diamond-pattern ventilation holes. The single-storied southwestern "L" shaped block is constructed of yellow brick and includes a smithy, served by a double ridge stack.
