Description

The war memorial in St Mary's Churchyard is a Grade II listed structure dedicated to the fallen of both World Wars. Erected in 1920, it features an obelisk made of Aberdeen granite, which stands on a pedestal of the same material, resting on a stepped base of Portland stone. The pedestal is inscribed with the names of those who died in the First World War, as well as the inscription '1939-1945' and the names of those who fell in the Second World War. Originally unveiled in July 1920, the memorial was dedicated to the village's First World War dead and later included those from the Second World War. This memorial is noted for its fine detailing and serves as a significant historical and cultural landmark, holding group value with the nearby listed church.
