Description
Clophill Mill is a late 18th-century watermill located on the south side of Clophill High Street. The building is constructed of red brick featuring chequered decoration with flared headers. The basement and the bridge that carries the mill race are made of coursed ironstone, and the roof is covered with clay tiles.
The rectangular structure has a gable end facing the road and consists of two storeys plus attics over a basement. The east and west elevations each have a four-window range, with all windows being 19th-century cast iron casements that have been rebuilt with cambered heads. There is a plank door in the third bay and a loading door in the second bay of the first floor. On the road gable end, there is a blocked doorway on the first floor and a single light window in the attic, which also features exposed timber framing. The east elevation has similar window arrangements. Notably, a substantial undershot wheel remains in place under the bridge.
