Description

Lower Farm is a detached farmhouse that dates from the 17th to early 18th century, with later additions from the mid to late 18th century and the 20th century. The building features square-panelled timber framing with painted brick infill, a painted brick exterior, and a red tile roof with brick stacks. The original 17th to early 18th-century structure is a rectangular timber-framed cottage with a gable end and a large, partly detached projecting brick stack facing the road on the left. There is a mid to late 18th-century painted brick extension that is set back at right angles on the right side, along with a 20th-century lean-to extension that runs forward on the far right. The original part of the farmhouse is two storeys with an attic, and it is lit by 2-light casements with leaded panes. The 18th-century extension has four windows featuring 2, 3, and 4-light casements with leaded panes. There is a studded plank door located off centre on the left side. Notable architectural details include dentil brickwork at the eaves and both axial and projecting gable-end stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
