Description
This barn, located about 4 metres south-east of Rectory Farm, dates from the late 17th century to the mid-18th century. It features square-panelled timber framing with brick infill and ventilation holes, all set on a high coursed squared and dressed limestone plinth, which is occasionally interrupted by pyramidal dressed stone padstones. The gable end facing the road was rebuilt in brick in the late 18th to early 19th century, and the barn has a corrugated iron roof, which was formerly thatched. The barn has a rectangular plan with its gable end facing the road.
On the west-facing elevation, there are double plank doors located off-centre to the left, and part of the north-west corner has been cut away to widen access. The gable end facing the road includes a diamond-shaped ventilation panel near the top. Inside, the barn has four bays and a closed truss towards the south gable end, with queen post roof trusses and single through purlins. The floor is flagged and was used for threshing. There is a former thatched open-fronted store adjoining the barn, but it is not of special interest.
