Description
The Mill Cottage is a 17th-century house located on Blacksmith's Road in Alderton. It features square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill, limestone rubble, and rendered brick, topped with a thatched roof and a rendered brick stack. The building has a rectangular plan with its gable end facing the road and includes a 20th-century rendered extension that is not of special interest.
The cottage is one and a half storeys high, with a rendered entrance front that has, from left to right, a 20th-century three-light casement window, a fixed 12-light casement window, and a two-light wooden casement. There is a 19th-century plank door set within a segmental-headed surround, topped by a raking canopy with a stone slate roof. A single central two-light eyebrow dormer is present on the roof.
On the gable end facing the road, there is a two-light 19th-century casement window with horizontal glazing bars on the ground floor, and above it, a similar casement and a wooden casement in the timber-framed gable. Both 19th-century casements feature early latches. The gable ends are half-hipped, and there is a single axial stack. The interior has not been inspected.
