Description

No 16 on School Road is a house dating from the mid 17th century to early 18th century. It features square-panelled timber framing with brick infill set on a rubble plinth, and there is a later brick extension. The roof is covered with artificial stone slates, which were likely originally thatched, and there is a random squared and dressed limestone stack with a brick shaft. The house has a rectangular plan and stands two storeys high.

The facade has three windows, which are lit by 2-light wooden casements with glazing bars that align with the framing. The entrance is almost central and features a 20th-century plank door with a single bull's eye pane, sheltered by an open-sided lean-to porch. To the right gable end, there is a single-bay brick extension that includes two 20th-century three-light wooden casements with glazing bars. The left gable end has a projecting stack with a brick shaft that contains a limestone datestone initialled 'J -- 1717'. The interior has not been inspected.
