Description
The Garth is a house dating from the 17th century, with an extension from the early 19th century and some repairs from the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill set on a rubble plinth, topped with a tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays oriented east to west, with a 19th-century rear extension. There is an external chimney stack made of ashlar with a brick shaft on the west gable, and the main stack is centrally located between the two eastern bays, also with a brick shaft, accompanied by a lobby entrance.
The south front is two storeys high and has three windows: two 3-light casements and one 2-light casement to the right, all featuring chamfered timber architraves. The ground floor has similar window arrangements, with an entrance to the right of the centre that includes a moulded wooden architrave, a 20th-century boarded door, a narrow overlight, and a lean-to tiled canopy supported by plain wooden posts. The framing consists of four square panels high with straight angle braces, and the east gable truss includes three struts to the collar and V-struts at the apex.
