Description

The Poor House, now divided into three houses, dates to the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-18th century and a late 20th-century extension. The building is timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill between the timbers, standing on a rendered plinth, and has a tile roof. It comprises three framed bays aligned east to west, featuring an external gable-end stack on a rubble base to the west, and a further stack positioned centrally between the two eastern bays. The north front has two storeys, displaying four windows. These are casement windows with two, one, three, and two lights respectively on the upper floor, and two, three, three, and two lights on the ground floor. The entrances to numbers 2 and 3 are located to the left of centre and in the right-hand gable end respectively. Number 1’s entrance is through a 20th-century lean-to extension on the left. The timber framing is arranged in four square panels in height with straight angle braces. The east gable truss shows four struts to the collar, incorporating V-struts to the apex.
