Description
Westmead is a house built in 1622, which was refronted and extended in the late 18th century, with some restoration in the mid-20th century. It has a timber frame with painted brick infill, refronted in brick, and features a tile roof. The house consists of three bays aligned east to west, with an outshot to the north and the two eastern bays widened on the south side. There is a main chimney stack at the rear of the two eastern bays, made of brick, and an external rubble stack with a brick shaft on the west gable.
The south front is two storeys high and has one window on the ground floor and two windows on the first floor, all of which are 3-light mid-20th century casements. The ground floor also features a canted bay window to the right. The entrance is located in the left-hand gable and has a hipped tiled canopy over a 20th-century ornamental door. The framing consists of four square panels high, with the west gable truss supported by two struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex. Inside, there are exposed chamfered and stopped ceiling beams. The reported date of 1622 is not visible.
