Description

The Brick House is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, which was refronted in the early 18th century and has undergone some alterations in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. It features a timber-frame structure with painted brick and rendered infill on a rubble plinth, partially clad in roughcast brick, and has a roof made of tiles and slate. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with the main range from the 17th century to the north and a shorter 18th-century range to the east.

On the west wall, there is a lateral stack made of rubble with a brick shaft. The south front of the house has two storeys and includes a band at the ground floor, a concrete coped verge to the gable on the left, and a dentilled brick cornice on the right. To the left, there is a three-light casement window, while the ground floor features two two-light casements. The entrance, located to the left of centre, is sheltered by a gabled tiled canopy and has a moulded wooden architrave with a half-glazed door. The right-hand return wall includes a canted bay window.

Visible framing on the left-hand wall consists of four square panels high, raised by an additional panel from the 18th century. Originally, the building jutted out over the street. Inside, some ceiling beams are exposed and feature chamfered and stopped detailing.
