Description
Longford is a 17th-century house that underwent some alterations in the mid-19th century and was restored in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered and painted brick infill and a tiled roof. The building has a U-shaped plan, with the main range oriented east to west and a subsidiary range projecting towards the street to the north. The main stack is positioned axially east of the center of the main range, with a lobby entrance located against it.
The north front is one storey high with an attic, which is illuminated by casement windows in the gables and a framed gabled central dormer window. The ground floor has a configuration of two plus four plus two windows, mostly 2-light casements, except for the single-light windows flanking the entrance to the left of center. The entrance features a 17th-century boarded door.
The framing consists of three rectangular panels high with straight angle braces. Each gable has two struts to the collar and V-struts at the apex. Inside, there are exposed chamfered and stopped ceiling beams. The west fireplace of the main stack includes an ogee mantel beam with a 17th-century spit rack above it. Adjacent to this fireplace is a recess containing a stone slab with a round lobed basin and a drain below.
