Description
Vartry House is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century and alterations in the early 20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill, and has brick sections, covered by a tile roof. The building comprises three bays aligned north/south, with the northern bay added in the 19th century. A brick chimney stack sits on the north gable of the original two bays. The south front has two storeys, featuring a two-light casement window above a three-light casement window. The entrance is in the left-hand wall, sheltered by a lean-to tiled canopy and a half-glazed door. The west wall shows exposed timber framing, four panels high, likely originally jettied towards the street. A false timber framing is present on the street gable. Inside, there are exposed chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
