Description

Ivy Cottage is an estate cottage, likely dating to around 1840, with subsequent additions and alterations. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick laid on a stone coped plinth, featuring diaper patterns made with blue brick. The roof is tiled, with coped verges and shaped finials. The building is cruciform in plan, with a central gable projecting to the front. A mid-20th century flat-roofed extension adjoins the rear on the right-hand side.

The cottage is one storey high, with a gable-lit attic. Two inserted, mid-20th century gabled dormers now light the roof slope on the left. Windows are mullioned cast iron casements; two are on the ground floor to the left, and one window is on each floor in the gable. The glazing in the dormers replicates the original window style. The entrance is through a mid-20th century half-glazed door situated immediately to the right of the front gable. A brick lean-to adjoins the door on the right. Prominent ridge stacks flank the gable, featuring diagonal triple shafts and dentilled capping. A mid-20th century extension to the rear is constructed using brickwork and windows that imitate the original design.
