Description

Hillview Cottage is a detached house on the north side of Vicarage Street, Painswick. Built in the early 19th century, it was originally two cottages and is slightly set back from the street. The construction is of dressed, squared coursed limestone with flush quoins; the roof is slate, and there are substantial brick gable stacks.

The house is three storeys high and has a two-window arrangement (one window to the left, one to the right). The windows are 16-pane sashes at ground and first floor levels, and near-square 8-pane sashes at the eaves. The windows are set wide, with stone sills and plain lintels. A 20th-century door is centrally located within plain reveals. The former doorways are situated either side of this, now filled in with masonry, though the segmental voussoir heads remain visible.

The building retains a modest appearance that is characteristic of its age and is visually connected with the nearby Dialtryst and Valpré.
