Description

Milton Cottage is a detached house located on the north side of Vicarage Street in Painswick. It dates from the 17th century, with a date panel at the eaves indicating "MC 1899 BW and KC." The facade is nearly symmetrical but features an offset door. The building is primarily constructed of limestone rubble, with some dressed stone used for the quoins, and has a concrete tile roof.

It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window front. The ground floor features two 3-light recessed chamfer-mullion casements, each under separate stopped hoods. The left casement extends up and over a 4-panel flush door to its left. There is also a small light set low, likely a fire window. On the first floor, there are two 3-light recessed chamfer-mullion casements under a common stopped hood, along with a centrally placed 3-light dormer from the 20th century. A date stone is centered above the top windows. The right return has 20th-century 2-light mullioned casements on the first floor and attic, above an additional doorway. The house features gable stacks.
